School and Head Start Screenings

Having a health and development assessment before starting Head Start or Kindergarten helps assure that your child gets off to the best possible start.

Head Start Screening

The health and development screening requirement for Head Start is the same screening as a Child and Teen Checkup. The West Central Minnesota Communities Action Head Start Program contracts with Horizon Public Health to provide those screenings for your child. Head Start and Horizon Public Health work together to make sure you are contacted and set up with an appointment for the screening.

Early Childhood Screenings (ECS)

Several of the school districts in Douglas, Grant, Pope, Stevens and Traverse counties contract with Horizon Public Health to complete the screenings for children about to enter Kindergarten.  Your school district will contact you to schedule your child’s ECS.

If you have a child that is over 3 years old and have not received a call from your school district, please call them to schedule an appointment.
