A public health emergency is anything that has the potential to cause injuries or illness to a large number of people. Public health emergencies may include; infectious disease outbreaks or pandemics, foodborne illness outbreaks, severe weather, natural disasters, power outages, incidents resulting in mass casualties, chemical spills, radiological releases or acts of bioterrorism.
